ABSTRACT

In the history of new China, no study of supernormal children (SC) had been done in the field of education and psychology until 1978. This chapter focuses on the findings, and the new requirements for teacher education. Teachers and parents make observation and take notes according to prescribed categories, and the groups led by psychologists exchange information regularly to carry on the study and solve the problems in education of SC cooperatively. The study and education of SC is regarded as important in some developed countries. The programs of teacher education in our country are considered totally for normal education. The chapter considers obvious in the field of teacher education to open some courses concerning the theory and methods of special education (for the supernormal and retarded). In the West, children who have great intelligence have been defined as gifted children, while in China those children are defined as SC.
