ABSTRACT

This chapter conducts historical research on the development of China–Egypt relations, including ancient trade and culture connections, and contemporary diplomatic relations, which started in the mid-1950s and continued to flourish during and after the Cold War. With the proposal of China’s Belt and Road Initiative and Egypt’s development plans, both countries have recognized each other’s importance in their own strategies. Thanks to the common interest and long-established working mechanism, China and Egypt have further upgraded their existing cooperation in various fields, with technology cooperation taken as an example in this chapter. Beyond the current economic projects, China and Egypt share a belief in state-led development, on the basis of which they have the potential to deepen their security cooperation in the future.
