ABSTRACT

Korean as a second/foreign language (KSL) is an academic endeavor, and it is based on a rigorous and scientific process of accumulating knowledge about KSL teaching and learning either inside or outside of classroom settings. This introduction presents an overview of the key concepts discussed in the subsequent chapters of this book. The book concerns different aspects of KSL from language-acquisition perspectives. It covers a number of central issues related to KSL pedagogy. The book examines different approaches to KSL. It provides a detailed, descriptive, and informative overview of primary findings and issues of KSL error analysis research. The book discusses the main research findings and issues related to a necessary, yet relatively under-explored component of KSL, that of individual characteristics of KSL teachers. It explores the assessment issues related to interactional competence in KSL contexts.
