ABSTRACT

Languages for specific purposes (LSP) has recently drawn renewed attention with the growing demand for L2 education that focuses on interdisciplinary and student-oriented curricula. LSP is a well-established field in the United States. However, L2 Korean researchers and practitioners have only begun to explore new ways to attract students and prepare them to be specialized yet well-rounded users of the target language in the real world. This chapter identifies key trends in Korean for specific purposes (KSP) research and practice in both the United States and South Korea and discusses significant findings in each of the identified trends. This chapter then discusses important issues related to the curriculum design and assessment of KSP. Finally, the chapter concludes on some positive notes by shedding light on future directions for KSP education.
