ABSTRACT

This chapter examines cases of betting-related match-fixing which involved national and club players in Vietnam. The actions taken by authorities, football federation and clubs to combat this type of corruption in football showed initial results in a new generation of professional players who focused on developing their career, images and good reputation. Trust of fans and sponsors is regained. But there is still more that needs to be done to maintain good results achieved. As such, recommendations made directed at a more systematic and global approach to prevent and combat corruption by focusing on education and communication, giving assistance and support to players; having in place early warning, whistleblowing and reporting mechanism; and making timely investigation and appropriate disciplinary actions as well as improvement in rules and regulations.
