ABSTRACT

This chapter aims to provide orientation and encouragement for those who feel the need to move forward but are looking for starting points and leads for launching the implementation process in their institution. Developing time-based media roles, responsibilities, and workflows across museum departments requires mutual understanding, respect, and trust. Awareness and inclusiveness can create valuable synergies that do not just benefit conservation but all of the contributing departments. Many museums that have successfully implemented time-based media conservation initiated their internal organization process with the launch of cross-departmental working groups. Opportunities for cross-institutional peer exchange can also be created by opening the lab for regular “salon-style” meetings with informal presentations and ample discussion time. Inviting in-house curators and other colleagues to these meetings, or even asking them to co-present, will further benefit the awareness and standing of time-based media conservation within the institution.
