ABSTRACT

This chapter examines how entrepreneurial ecosystems can foster social innovation to benefiting society and firms. It introduces social innovation followed by a discussion on entrepreneurial ecosystems. It presents different models of entrepreneurial ecosystems and compare their main features. It discusses the significance and connection of entrepreneurial ecosystems for social innovation. In sum, an entrepreneurial ecosystem promotes the creation of firms, whose effects are most visible in developing countries. From a social perspective, developing countries are characterized by existence of substantial imbalances between poorest and richest socioeconomic classes. The corporation develops social innovation when they focus on social change and especially achieve sustainable development when participating in sustainable entrepreneurial ecosystems rooted in solving societal problems that empower people of developing countries. Since not all countries and societies are equal, corporate social innovation must be contextualized. This fact implies that local contextual situations must be taken into consideration to build corporate social innovation according to the social, economic, institutional, and environmental context.
