ABSTRACT

In this chapter, we discuss our experiences as teacher educators as we have explored Learning About Meaningful Physical Education (LAMPE) and the Meaningful PE approach with our generalist primary school pre-service teachers in Ireland. We describe how our collaborative planning and reflection has helped to shape and support our teaching using LAMPE. Our experience highlights the importance of building on our students’ prior experiences as they learn to teach using the features and pedagogical principles of Meaningful PE. We outline how we have used the growing body of LAMPE and Meaningful PE resources to scaffold discussion and encourage student engagement with current literature. Finally, we share how we have explored a wide range of curricular content through the lens of Meaningful PE.
