ABSTRACT

In this chapter I share insights on my experience of using the Meaningful PE approach in my classroom over a period of several years. In particular, I focus on ways Meaningful PE has informed the development of my own teaching philosophy and how I put that philosophy into action with my students. Critical to the adoption of this philosophy has been making the prioritization of meaningful experiences explicit to my students and providing them with opportunities to play a central role in identifying, understanding, and interpreting the meaningfulness of their experiences in physical education (PE). I share examples from my classroom practice, with a focus on how my teaching practice has changed as a result of the adoption of the philosophy underpinning the Meaningful PE approach and how the idea of meaningful experiences has become the core of my vision for PE.
