ABSTRACT

This chapter provides an overview of the development of the pedagogical principles of Learning About Meaningful Physical Education (LAMPE), an approach to teaching and learning in physical education teacher education (PETE) where meaningfulness is presented as a central organizing concept. We share the origins of the LAMPE (and by extension, Meaningful PE) project and some of the challenges we faced in identifying pedagogies to complement theoretical ideas related to meaningfulness. Next, we outline the five pedagogical principles of LAMPE. Finally, we share some pre-service teacher experiences of LAMPE and Meaningful PE.
