ABSTRACT

This chapter builds on the previous chapters and explores issues relating to helping clients understand our multi-minds that can be full of conflicts, suppressions and accentuations. It describes the multiple-selves exercise as one of the central concepts and guided practices of CFT. The chapter also explores how attachment processes of a secure base and safe haven support the core therapeutic goals of developing client awareness, differentiation, tolerance, integration, and transformation. As compassion is rooted in the caring social mentality, loss and disruptions to caring connections can activate sadness, grief, and yearning, making these a major focus for therapy.
