ABSTRACT

As relationally oriented counselors, we find the mapping procedures of Situational Analysis (SA) invaluable resources for discovery and critically reflective conversations with clients in counseling practice. The socio-material and discursive concepts informing SA fit well with our commitments to social justice and collaborative practice. Using an amalgamated case example here, we show how SA maps can be used creatively with clients to assess concerns about “addictive behaviors” and to promote thoughtful, critically reflective and generative ways of “moving forward” collaboratively.
