ABSTRACT
In this chapter, Robert P. Archer briefly describes his early life and identifies three of the many individuals who have significantly influenced his development as a personality assessment researcher and clinician. One of these individuals, Charles Spielberger, was a mentor during his training at the University of South Florida (USF) graduate school and my early career. The second individual, Paul Meehl, shaped his thinking as he read his work as an undergraduate. The final individual, Auke Tellegen, has influenced his thinking about assessment during the most recent part of his career, including shaping his perspective in his role in the development of the MMPI-A-RF.
