ABSTRACT

The emergence and development of the sharing economy have been accompanied by new organisation types (platforms), business models and governance systems. Drawing on sharing economy and digital entrepreneurship, the study contributes to this body of knowledge by examining how digital entrepreneurs in a specific context identify problems and develop solutions that are in line with their values. The qualitative study reports the findings of a single case of a non-profit, peer-to-peer, knowledge sharing platform and examines how political, ecological and legislative policies in a specific context can influence platform orientation, operations and governance. The study also examines how the restraining influences of a context is reconciled as an opportunity by the values of the entrepreneurs. The findings depict a reciprocal relation between context and entrepreneurial values in determining problem(s) and developing entrepreneurial solutions.
