ABSTRACT

One of the larger challenges encountered when communicating climate change is that the nature of this change is not customarily immediate and direct. Therefore, attempts to communicate effectively to stakeholders can be thwarted by climate change’s complexity, uncertainty, and its intangible, and often unseen, character. This chapter explores how 360-degree video can address that challenge by allowing users to “experience” the effects of climate change. This chapter, therefore, provides information on recent breakthroughs in 360-degree video and this technology’s potential to contribute to climate change communication, as well as an empirical overview of the actual application of immersive media in organizational communication.
