ABSTRACT

For what practical purposes can research on climate change temporalities be put into use? In this conclusion, we show how paying attention to textual genres and practices apart from the scientific ones may help widen the range of possible strategies to deal with climate change. We also highlight three weak spots often present in climate change communication, which result, at least partly, from failure to consider genres and temporalities: the dangers of uncritically exporting scientific timescales, of turning everything related to the future into climate change, and of using what we might call ‘the temporalities of too late’.
