ABSTRACT

In this chapter, the authors discuss the challenges and opportunities of enacting responsible migrant workforce management through responsible global leadership in multinational corporations (MNCs). They place particular emphasis on day-to-day decision-making and business practice, thus allowing for certain overlaps between responsible leadership and responsible management. The authors briefly explain relevant terminology and theoretical justification, followed by an overview of the common challenges faced by MNCs that employ migrant workers. A significant portion of the chapter is then dedicated to three aspects of organizations that are important for leadership decisions regarding the international migrant workforce: human resource management, internationalization strategy, and organizational culture. The authors conclude by formulating avenues for future research that would seek to inform and improve global migrant workforce management in the private sector. Despite these challenges, opportunities exist for moving toward more-responsible migrant workforce management, including fostering positive social interactions between migrant and host-country workers.
