ABSTRACT

This chapter navigates the laws and ethics governing producers working both in the newsroom and in the field. The information in this chapter is intended to ensure students are aware of certain legal issues that affect journalists, including libel and false light invasion of privacy. It includes a discussion about what and where you can record in various situations, as well as the laws and ethics surrounding social media use. It also stimulates thinking on ethical journalism practices, ethical decision-making, and codes of ethics.
