ABSTRACT

This chapter focuses on organisational design and work organisation, and their impact on innovation performance and the quality of working life. It draws on two harmonised European surveys, one addressed to employers and the other addressed to employees. The analysis shows that adopting a ‘learning organisation’ design is associated with better innovation performance and that learning forms of work organisation are associated with more satisfied, less stressed workers. The chapter concludes by arguing that the Danish national innovation system would benefit from the introduction of policies designed to support the adoption of learning organisations.
