ABSTRACT
This chapter discusses the master plan of the sponge city construction in Shenzhen, including the objectives, indicator system, implementation approaches, responsibility division, and the effects of the sponge city construction by using site investigation and the Storm Water Management Model. Shenzhen is promoting the sponge city construction with high standards, building a perfect urban low-impact development system, drainage and flood control system, and combining them with an urban ecological protection system to provide security for the sustainable development. The effects of the sponge city construction in Shenzhen are monitored and evaluated by taking an affordable housing project in a newly built residential community as an example. The sponge city construction and maintenance management have great differences compared with traditional water supply and drainage facilities. Sponge city construction is a systematic project with multiple layers, a long period, and many participants.
