ABSTRACT
This chapter looks to use econometric techniques to examine this relationship between tactic choice and ideological affiliation. It analyzes these two techniques and their results in order to look at potential policy responses. The correlation analysis looks at the correlations between each ideological affiliation and each tactic choice. The way an act of political violence is carried out, or the methods used to convey a message, can give people clues as to who carried out the crime and their ideology. Specific sects of terrorism research explore how certain terrorist organizations use a set of tactics to accomplish their goals. In order to examine the relationship between ideological affiliation and tactic choice, it is important to look at the set of tactics that are common among groups perpetrating political violence and the preferred tactics of certain groups. Tactic choice, or weapon choice, can also be impacted by the technologies that an organization has access to in a given year.
