ABSTRACT

The conclusion briefly summarizes the book’s contributions to scholarship on early American music and dance and highlights how Keller’s work relates to recent trends in scholarship. To further support and catalyze future research by readers, it identifies several ways that they can expand and enrich our understanding of early American music and dance and their place in society. Suggestions for how readers can apply guidance from this book to future research include exploring the wealth of digitized primary sources, considering the diversity of early American musicians and dancers both within and beyond the European American styles that Keller most often addressed, and examining material culture pertaining to music.
