ABSTRACT

Raoul Camus worked with Kitty since she started studying fife and dance tunes. Richard Spicer collaborated with Kitty on his study of Aaron Thompson's manuscript of dances and music. Graham Christian produced the second collection of country dances for modern dancers, worked with her on many early American dances, and continues to work with the Colonial Music Institute on dance issues. Kitty used to say that the waltz replaced country dances, because the couple could embrace each other instead of simply staying at arms' length. Tim Murray's study on fifes and drums reflects where Kitty got her feet wet in the research of early American music. Bill Everett worked with Kitty for years in uncovering important musical and dance themes and for historical research and performance.
