ABSTRACT

While there are many texts on leadership, most of them miss the point of what leadership is. The distinction of leadership over simply forcing people to do things (which can be called “Boss” behaviour) is the ability to influence people to want to do things. While boss behaviour can work in commercial organisations, it is ineffective in religious organisations. True leadership is required to influence volunteers to work and perform difficult lifestyle changes. As such, religious organisations provide a kind of litmus test for whether we are discussing actual leadership or just boss behaviour.
