ABSTRACT

Twenty years after Hind Swaraj, the philosopher KC Bhattacharya delivered a lecture to a group of students later published in the Visvabharati Quarterly as an article in 26 succinct paragraphs titled, ‘Svaraj in Ideas.’ Seventy years after India attained political freedom the challenge of achieving the deep freedom of the mind remains. Decolonizing knowledge is the crux of the decoloniality and recoloniality debate also in West Asia, Africa, and Latin America. This article suggests how one can go beyond mere ‘decolonizing knowledge’ and move toward ‘svaraj in ideas’ focusing on the intellectual contribution of two scholars, AK Saran and Jit Pal Singh Uberoi.
