ABSTRACT
This chapter reviews theories and perspectives on the role of communication in the area of research translation, dissemination, and implementation. The chapter is divided into three sections that map out the terrain of translational communication as an area of science. The first section reviews prominent translational research models. The second section addresses how communication scholarship intersects and contributes across the translational research continuum. The third section reflects on the ways translational research contexts present new theoretical challenges for communication scholars. The chapter concludes with suggestions for future research.
