ABSTRACT

What does it take to run your own race? The Journey is not an isolated experience. It is the experience of being connected and interwoven with the lives of others. Each person is on their own path, intersecting with others, choosing which connections to cultivate, and which ones to release. Graduate students learn life lessons from their interconnectedness with other persons who are similarly situated in the racialized, space and time. Finding solace, support, solidarity, and sanctum, scholars navigate rough terrain with a community of supporters who cheer them on. The journey is not for the faint at heart nor is it about a destination rather it is about the transformational process of living, “Ubuntu-I Am Because We Are.”
