ABSTRACT

This chapter explores the journey of a first-generation Latina navigating her way through a doctoral program at a predominately White institution. Faced with various obstacles throughout her educational trajectory, the author reflects on the varied ways in which race, class, gender, and other forms of oppression have created barriers for students of color in the US educational system. By shedding light on the injustices in the educational system, the author hopes to validate the experiences of scholars of color and redefine who belongs in academia.
