ABSTRACT

This chapter provides an overview of the rugby injury landscape, initially considering the similarities and differences between the two codes of rugby before moving on to more detailed consideration of the incidence and nature of injury at different levels of Rugby Union. Evidence relating to Rugby Union injuries at elite, community, youth, and women's playing levels is described, alongside commentary about the methodological issues influencing reporting to date. This will help researchers to understand key considerations when embarking on surveillance and help practitioners to interpret the information provided.
