ABSTRACT

Maximum strength and power production are vital to success as an elite athlete. This chapter provides the strength and conditioning practitioner with important information about maximum strength and power profiling and in turn how the profile can influence the training variables. Practitioners must have a comprehensive understanding of the available maximum strength and power assessments, as these assessments can be effectively utilised to guide the development and retention of strength and power throughout the training year. The battery of assessments used to create the profile must also reflect the required rugby code and positional strength and power demands and be of practical benefit to the athlete's development.
