ABSTRACT

The introductory chapter in the book engages in a synoptic view of Indian Partition, both within the imperatives of history and the generic confluences of representation. Following the generic trends of neo-historiography, the chapter explicates the relevance of Partition as not just a historical event but an experience and thus looks into the cultural manifestations of Partition, which make up a major corpus of the genre of South Asian literature. The chapter focuses considerably on the Representation of Partition in the rich and fertile discipline of Bengali literature and films.
