ABSTRACT

In the past decade, human intervention in biodiversity and conservation of wildlife has become a central focus in sustainability and international legislative policies. This chapter introduces the most recent funding mechanism and collaborations: the Conservation Wildlife bond (CWB) or more narrowly called the Rhino Impact Bond (RIB). The RIB is designed to leverage private market investments using market principles to support the ongoing counter-poaching activities, to increase rhino growth and improve management of rhinos in protected areas. Over the years, several international and local legislations have placed bans on rhino horn trade. The impact bond is a funding concept gaining traction in areas of sustainability, particularly in areas of welfare state and unemployment in developed societies. The RIB funding mechanism has huge potential in conservation of wildlife.
