ABSTRACT

Information and communication technologies (ICT) represent nowadays one of the most important tools in people’s activities. By facilitating work, giving access to education, to medicine, and to different services, technology is also regarded as a means of reducing world inequality and poverty. Poverty and social exclusion affect dimensions like education, health, and standards of living, mainly access to food, housing, and water. Women have poor access to ICT and penetration of mobile phones and Internet is low among women compared to men in developing economies. Women cannot use it for education, training, and knowledge and skills empowerment. As a consequence, women struggle to improve their income. Nevertheless, women are aware of the key role played by ICT on the quality of their social and professional lives. This chapter discuss the results of ICT use in poor countries to increase the quality of life among women, by presenting different projects developed for women’s usage in agriculture, health, and education.
