ABSTRACT

At the end of a movie or ritual, there are always the people who want to talk about the credits, characters’ costumes, special effects, the implements used, the food served, the sublime singing, the beautiful dancing, the powerful drumming. A concussion changes how the people think, makes they unable to think. When the group appears in front of Satche’s mother, they become silent and remain several feet away from the door. There is an assumption in Tey that Satche will die an uneventful death. In response, Satche retreats to the bedroom and showers. The true end of a ritual is its integration into one’s body, mind, spirit, and life—the power of its ashe’ to perpetuate and manifest change in participants and receivers.
