ABSTRACT

The Yash Pal Committee report set in motion the process of reform of the school curriculum, which acquired greater momentum through the NCF 2005. The central message of “Learning without Burden”, that is, of learning with understanding, was reflected in the recommendations made with regard to syllabi, textbooks and assessment. These recommendations were elaborated in detail in the NCF 2005, which led to a revision of the syllabus and textbooks in school mathematics. I will take stock of what gains we have made in terms of curriculum reform and its implementation, indicating where the agenda remains unfinished. Finally, I reflect briefly on the challenges that the new National Education Policy of 2020 brings.
