ABSTRACT

Applied behavior analysis research has demonstrated that behavior can be changed through gross reinforcement and extinction manipulations in the natural environment. This is clearly evidenced by the research represented in the Journal of Applied Behavior Analysis since 1968. In this type of research, it is not 190usually necessary to know the schedules of reinforcement which have maintained the behavior that is to be changed. Knowing a contingency exists between the behavior and the stimulus event (predicted to be the maintaining reinforcer) is, in most instances, enough for prescribing modification procedures.
