ABSTRACT

This paper examines the principles upon which Milo Rau's political activism is based, while asking why he succeeds in giving new meaning to the tragic climate that hangs over recent times. To this end, it first examines the key concept of “global realism” that Rau uses to situate his artistic position in a more than ever “global” world and reality. Because this reality is fundamentally based on a highly mediatized and ideologized conception of truth and nature, it becomes increasingly difficult for Rau to interpret violence and evil as categories that belong to human behavior. That is why Rau calls on us to follow him in his “School of Resistance” and to face the imminent apocalypse that is about to follow post-covid times. The article concludes by studying the reactions of spectators who are probing the effects of Rau’s tragic endgame on the stage and who are often left behind in a state of complete bewilderment.
