ABSTRACT

Autonomous driving technologies are driving the waves of automotive industry innovation. Identifying research and innovation gaps is getting crucial for staying competitive. This study aims to provide a concise understanding of these gaps by performing a technology intelligence process. This process is based on a technology evaluation framework incorporating type-2 fuzzy sets and systems. By using relevant patent and publication data, the four key technologies in autonomous driving (i.e., car navigation systems, path planning, environment perception, and car control) have been assessed according to their trendiness. The results of this assessment can be considered in project prioritization and portfolio management.
