ABSTRACT

With the rapidly changing conditions and increasing range of technological options, existing solution approaches have been inadequate to handle technology selection decisions. Furthermore, increasing amount of technology-related statistics, data, and increasing cost of implementing a technology plan have caused complexity to provide satisfactory solutions for strategic technology planning. Current practices indicate that as the stages of the technology management increment, the actual costs create irreversible risks for the survival of companies. Therefore, it has been desirable to terminate ineffective technology investments as early as possible. Several decisions are taken in each of technology selection stages. There are different methodologies used in the literature to qualify these selection decisions. This chapter specifically presents a concise review of the studies using multi-criteria decision-making methods for selecting technologies. Thereby, an insight about the state of the art can be obtained, the gaps can be identified and their extensive use can be promoted.
