ABSTRACT

Corporations can gain competitive advantage and increase their work efficiency by recruiting right personnel to the correct position. Personnel selection for recruitment is a complex process for the human resources department since it is very difficult to determine to the most appropriate personnel. Personnel selection for recruitment frequently occurs based on an individual judgment or group decisions made by the evaluation of candidates with predefined criteria. In literature, numerous methods are available with respect to personnel recruitment. However, it is observed that in these methods, the interdependencies of personnel selection criteria were not considered. In this study, an application model is proposed for finding the most appropriate personnel for recruitment by using a Multi-Criteria Decision-Making (MCDM) approach that uses the Analytic Network Process (ANP) method for criteria weighting and the Elimination and Choice Translating Reality (ELECTRE) method for alternative ranking.

The application, which helps the human resources department to determine the best candidate, was developed and a pilot study was conducted for a position of blue-collar cashier recruitment in a company of retail sector in Turkey. The test results were compared and found consistent with decision makers’ expectations. Therefore, the application’s accuracy was also proved with successful outcomes.
