ABSTRACT

Retail crime, particularly theft, is a concern around the world. Today, across many retail sectors, crime is growing and includes theft by employees, shoplifting, fraud, and organized retail crime. This chapter examines current international trends in retail theft, describes the significant types of theft and considers prevention efforts that can be employed to reduce shrink. The chapter also discusses how police, private retailers, and others can collaborate to address this concern. Lastly, the chapter provides insight into the future trends likely to be observed in retail theft.
