In 1892 Mr Bintoul became a member of the Institute of Accountants and Actuaries in Glasgow, and three years later he became a partner in his firm. At the time of his death he had been senior partner for thirty years. Outwith the various activities of his professional life, Mr Bintoul took little part in public affairs. He was a member of Glasgow Chamber of Commerce and a Director of the Merchants’ House, and he was also an elder in Glasgow Cathedral.
