ABSTRACT

John B. Wardhaugh was widely known in accounting circles, largely through his interest in the tutorial activities of the Institute, and for the authorship of professional books. For the long period of forty-six years he tutored candidates for the final examination of The Chartered Accountants of Scotland, the last twenty-eight years being under the auspices of the Institute. In 1944 his valued services to the profession were recognised when he was the recipient of a presentation from the Glasgow members. It is not an exaggeration to say that no one has done more for the apprentice chartered accountant in Scotland than John Wardhaugh. He was a member of Council of The Institute of Accountants and Actuaries in Glasgow (now merged in The Institute of Chartered Accountants of Scotland) from 1930 to 1934, and served for some years as a director of The Accountants’ Publishing Co. Ltd., the publishers of The Accountants’ Magazine.
