ABSTRACT
The effectiveness in meeting this moment depends on the ability of activists and organizers to build strong social movements, while continuing to raise up new generations of leaders. Movement-building also requires millions of people who are inspired to take consistent action and make deep investments in creating a new political imagination, one that transforms the culture and politics of the nation. Diverse, dynamic communities are building a new transformative politics that is very interpersonal, community-oriented, transracial, transnational, and powerful despite a lack of heavy financial resources—or investments—in these communities. US voters will have to decide which candidates best align with their values while facing massive disinformation efforts aimed at swaying their votes. Pro-democracy Latinx social movements will have to battle big money in politics by providing bold demands and powerful organizing to drive voter turnout and ensure presidential candidates address the issues most important to their bases.
