ABSTRACT
Professional counselors are responsible for conducting and utilizing research to advocate for clients and programs. This chapter includes an overview of the ethical imperative for counseling practices to be based on rigorous research methodologies. The current status of research in the counseling profession is explored. Finally, the chapter includes case examples of illustrations regarding how professional counselors, counselor educators, and professional organization leaders can use research to lead and advocate.
