ABSTRACT

This chapter draws insights from the evolution of human rights literacy in a continuously changing social landscape, particularly due to the omnipresence of the Internet and new technologies. The proposed theoretical framework explores the role of human rights literacy and its intersection with media literacy and technological transformations with the focus on understanding the essential elements of human rights education, the main challenges created by technologies and how educators and learners can adapt to the new realities, while at the same time encouraging more stakeholders to purposefully shape a society of active and mindful global citizens. The goal of the chapter is to trigger curiosity in educators and learners to engage in a lifelong learning process, in which a rights-based approach is part of everyday life, and technology is a tool that is consciously used.
