ABSTRACT

The mindset list serves as a reflection of first-year undergraduate US students’ view of the world and reflects the key points about the generation compiling the list. As such, the list helps the educators offer more meaningful course content. In a similar fashion, for this activity, the facilitator should direct participants (in small groups) to brainstorm a list of items that would be notable for persons born in the current calendar year about the world into which they have just been born. The facilitator should begin by asking the participants to imagine that they have been drafted to work with the United Nations Educational, Scientific and Cultural Organization (UNESCO) to predict the future on one of five UNESCO working groups: futures literacy in higher education, futures literacy for inclusivity and diversity, futures literacy for refugees, futures literacy to redeem colonization, and futures literacy in policymaking.
