ABSTRACT

If the State of Israel claims that it, and it alone, is the venue of messianic fulfillment, then a Jew has the right to apply the same criteria in judging this claim as he has, in the past, applied to the messianic claims of Jesus and of Sabbatai Zevi. Readers of judaism might also have been surprised to learn from Mr. Rosenak that 1 — of all people — regard the “commandments” of Judaism only as “spiritual truths.” Mr. Rosenak, too, shows himself fully aware of that common origin, and of the role played by the Emancipation. He goes on to indicate that the Zionists have made the right choice, and the non-Zionists the wrong one. With the unity of the People of Israel so clearly recognized and demonstrated, both in the State of Israel and in the Diaspora, when the slogans and shibboleths of yesteryear could be quietly and unceremoniously interred.
