ABSTRACT

This chapter provides students with tools for critical consideration and application, linking to them in their present context and their ability to achieve a meaningful continuity of carer experience. It takes time to organise students case load, especially if it is the first time they have undertaken it. For many students, they are not fully informed of the complex background activities midwives conduct until they qualify and then are expected to perform them themselves. As a qualified and experienced midwife, it is not uncommon to talk out loud students clinical reasoning of unusual or complex cases with colleagues. It is a valuable skill that demonstrates safety in patient care. As a qualified midwife, receiving feedback from the women is essential to show professional development and revalidation evidence. Receiving user feedback is useful to support students with thinking through what can they put into their future practice.
