ABSTRACT

Neurosemiotics is an emergent field that aims to provide a holistic understanding of human communicative behavior by integrating social and biological sciences. The embodied approach to semantic processing fits seamlessly into this agenda, as it examines how different neural mechanisms, spanning motor, sensory, and even emotional networks, are recruited during processing of words alluding to such domains. This chapter traces connections between embodied language research and neurosemiotics to capture key continuities between our bodies, brains, and communicative capacities.
